Early Edge Joins October Meeting of LAUSD Board Committee on Children and Families in Early Education

Early Edge California’s Director of Dual Language Learner (DLL) Programs, Carolyne Crolotte, joined the October meeting of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board Committee on Children and Families in Early Education as an external member of the committee. 

At the meeting, members had the opportunity to hear two presentations:

1. “College Begins in Early Education” presented by Ranae Amezquita, Director of Early Education Centers and California State Preschools, and Dr. Dean Tagawa, Executive Director of Early Education
2. “Infant Centers in Early Education” presented by Jessica Robles Logan, Principal of Ramona Infant Center

The presentations shared more about the current state of LAUSD’s early education programs, including infant and toddler programs.

Carolyne praised the district for its focus on providing high-quality Early Learning to the children and families in Los Angeles County, and also urged the district to further expand their outreach efforts to raise awareness of these programs. She also encouraged the district to focus on infant and toddler programs given the dire shortage of such programs in LA county and encouraged the district to consider implementing dual language programs beginning in infant and toddler programs given what we know about the first years of life not only for brain development but also for language and bilingual development.

There will be two additional meetings of the committee for the 2023-24 academic year, and details and topics are included below:

Upcoming Committee dates and topics:

• Thursday, January 18, 2024 | 10 am – 1 pm (PT): focus on broader early education (family child care, parental leave)
• Thursday, April 4, 2024 | 10 am – 1 pm (PT): focus on special programs in early education (dual language, inclusion)
