Innovative Approaches to Identifying and Supporting Dual Language Learners (DLLs)

Nearly 7.5 million children in the U.S. are Dual Language Learners (DLLs). Research shows that DLL children have better long-term academic outcomes when they receive support in preserving their home language. On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Early Edge California hosted our Innovative Approaches to Identifying and Supporting Dual Language Learners (DLLs) webinar as an opportunity to showcase policy models that can be applied nationally and emphasize the urgent need for asset-based supports and increased funding for DLLs.

Speakers included Patricia Lozano, Executive Director at Early Edge, Montserrat Garibay, Senior Advisor for Labor Relations and Acting Assistant Deputy Secretary and Director for the Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA), Michael Rodríguez, Executive Director at Dual Language Education of New Mexico, and Jessica Gutierrez, Program Manager at Fresno Unified School District.
