Early Edge Presents at Los Angeles County School Trustees Association Meeting

Early Edge California was invited to present at the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association (LACSTA) Meeting via Zoom on Monday, September 18, 2023. In addition to school board members and Superintendents across Los Angeles County, members of the association include representatives from the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and the California State Board Association. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond joined the meeting to provide opening remarks.

Early Edge Executive Director Patricia Lozano and Director of Dual Language Learner Programs Carolyne Crolotte began the presentation with an overview of the current Early Learning and Care landscape in California that illustrated the importance of supporting children’s first five years. The team then provided updates on substantive changes or requirements as a result of statewide policies such as Universal Transitional Kindergarten and AB 1363 and highlighted key advocacy opportunities for members to further support the youngest learners in their districts and programs. LACSTA members learned about Early Edge’s resources that support quality Early Learning, including the TKCalifornia and Multilingual Learning Toolkit websites. The presentation concluded with small group discussions for members to share emerging takeaways or ideas to implement in their districts.

Early Edge is grateful for the invitation to present and the engagement of LACSTA members at the Sept. 18th meeting, and we look forward to identifying future opportunities for continued partnership in service of our youngest learners.
