What should I know about the new plan in California that seeks to guarantee pre-kindergarten for free

October 10, 2021 | Univision 34 Los Angeles

Qué debo saber sobre el nuevo plan en California que busca garantizar el prekínder de forma gratuita

Our Executive Director Patricia Lozano spoke with Andrea González from Univision 34 Los Angeles’ Al Punto California about Governor Gavin Newsom’s signed early childhood legislation and his commitment to providing free, high-quality, inclusive pre-kindergarten for all four-year-olds in the state. Patricia explains that the plan goes into effect in 2022 and talks about what families have to do in order to access the benefit.

Patricia also shares about the newly signed Assembly Bill (AB) 1363 that supports California’s Dual Language Learners.

“We know that the brain at this age is making millions of connections. So if we put them in a center, in a place where there is language, where there is play, where they are learning, all these connections will happen and they will be ready to learn in Kindergarten. We also want our Latino families to be ready, have the same opportunities as other children, and not be behind when they enter Kindergarten.”
