For Immediate Release
Early Edge is deeply concerned by the federal administration’s plans to pause child care funding to states, especially the targeted restriction on California’s ability to draw down funds, as well as the rescission of regulations that have helped reduce hardship for both providers and families. This pause on funding will create instability in access to child care for many working families who are already struggling, ultimately putting both their employment and the businesses that rely on them at risk.
Child care consistently ranks among the most broadly supported bipartisan issues nationwide, yet we have not seen any federal actions from the current Administration that meaningfully address the ongoing child care crisis, or reduce the high costs borne by families and providers. Families need stability, predictability, and affordability in child care so they can work and support their households. Providers need adequate, reliable funding and fair compensation that reflects the true cost of delivering quality care. A pause on drawdown funds will do nothing but harm all families and businesses.
Early Edge remains committed to continued advocacy and monitoring at both the federal and state levels to ensure parents have access to affordable, reliable, and high-quality child care, and that early learning and care providers across all settings are fairly compensated for their essential work.
We urge you to contact your members of Congress and ask them to demand an end to the funding freeze and restart payments to states, and ensure families can continue to access the programs they greatly need. Contact the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121, which will connect you to the right Congressional or Senate office based on your location.
