Early Edge Hosts September FFN Provider Advisory Group Meeting

Early Edge California hosted the latest meeting of its Family, Friends, and Neighbor (FFN) Advisory Group in September. During the meeting, Early Edge provided an update on the recommendations and final report from the Rate and Quality workgroup formed by the California Department of Social Services. The Rate and Quality workgroup was brought together to make changes to the reimbursement rates and quality standards for child care and development and preschool programs.

After the update, providers discussed  a series of questions about quality standards in child care. Here are some of the ideas they shared:

  • Quality means meeting the basic needs of children, supporting their mental health, providing developmentally appropriate activities, and having good communication with parents.
  • Parents’ trust in the provider is a critical component of quality. They receive a lot of recommendations from the families they serve, who trust them and know they provide high-quality services.
  • Access to professional development and workshops as a critical component of quality so they can continue to build their skills to best support children.
  • They see building authentic relationships with families as a critical element of quality since they will better understand the children and include families in the process.

The FFNs in our workgroup see the quality standards above as building blocks to uplift children and meet the diverse needs of families.
