Early Edge California Receives a $3 Million Gift from Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott
Los Angeles, CA – Early Edge California, an advocacy leader in Early Learning, received a $3 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott through her foundation Yield Giving. This historic investment for Early Edge is the largest single donation ever received by the organization.
“We are deeply grateful to receive this generous gift from Ms. Scott. We’re honored to be recognized for advocating on behalf of our youngest learners. This contribution validates our results over the last 20 years and will make a profound impact on our efforts moving forward. We’re eager and excited to expand on the great achievements we have made with our partners for Early Learning in California,” said Patricia Lozano, Executive Director of Early Edge California.
Since 2003, Early Edge California has been a leader in Early Learning policy in California, advocating for high-quality universal preschool (including Transitional Kindergarten), supporting Dual Language Learners (DLLs), and promoting investment in the professional development, training, and compensation of teachers and caregivers.
Most recently, Early Edge successfully passed legislation in California to create the largest universal preschool program for 4-year-olds in the U.S., and to develop the first process in the nation to identify DLLs in State Preschool Programs.
“This gift is a reflection of the tireless efforts of our staff, advisory board and partners, whose passion for this work comes through every day. As a former preschool teacher and a dual language learner myself, I appreciate the work of our teachers and the importance of having access to high-quality programs for all children in California,” said Lozano.
The unrestricted funding from Ms. Scott will allow Early Edge to continue expanding opportunities for all California children and their families to access high-quality, inclusive, and affordable Early Learning programs.
