CHESS Conference

On Sunday, March 9th, Early Edge California’s Policy Analyst, Andrew Avila, presented at the Cal State Student Association’s (CSSA) 30th annual conference—California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS)—at the Sheraton Hotel in Sacramento. In preparation for CSSA’s advocacy day, Andrew presented a session about our sponsored bill SB 271 (Gómez Reyes) which aims to strengthen support for student parents working to complete their higher education at one of California’s public institutions, while raising children.

UCSA Rally & Press Conference

On Monday, March 10th, members of the Early Edge California policy team including our Director of Policy, Carolyne Crolotte, and our Policy Analyst, Andrew Avila, spoke at the “Legislating A Better Future Rally & Press Conference,” hosted by the UC Student Association (UCSA) at the State Capitol in Sacramento to jointly advocate for equitable student success, college affordability, immigrant rights, housing justice, and education as a right. Carolyne and Andrew shared about our sponsored bill SB 271 (Gómez Reyes) in their remarks.

CA Women’s Caucus Press Conference for SB 271

On April 9th, Early Edge staff and students from UCSA joined the CA Women’s Caucus at the State Capitol for their press conference on legislative priorities, which includes SB 271 as a priority bill. Thank you Senator Monique Limón for presenting SB 271 at the press conference and to the Caucus for adopting this as a 2025 priority.
