Statement on California Governor’s State of the State Address

Statement from our Executive Director, Patricia Lozano on Governor’s State of the State Address

February 13, 2019 – Yesterday, in his first State of the State address, California Governor Gavin Newsom outlined his plan for addressing the state’s most critical education, housing and healthcare challenges so that working families can provide a better future for their kids.

We are proud to have a governor who will tackle these problems and look forward to seeing his proposals become reality – particularly as they relate to Early Edge California’s priorities of

i) increasing access to high-quality Early Learning programs,
ii) improving Teacher Training and Pay, and
iii) supporting Dual Language Learner (DLL) programs.

Governor Newsom reminded us that the choices we make today will shape the future of millions for decades to come. For the nearly half a million babies born in California every year, the actions we take today as parents, advocates and legislators will determine the type of future they can look forward to.

Let’s do all that we can today, now, this instant – so that every kid in California can have a brighter future.

As Governor Newsom said in his address: “Taking care of each other… this is what we do in California.”
