Building California’s Future: Tackling the Facilities Challenge for Our Youngest Learners
Quality Early Learning programs are essential for promoting healthy child development. However, the majority of families and children in California do not have access to high-quality Early Learning programs, due to lack of facilities in their neighborhood. Lack of access is particularly acute for low-income communities of color.
There are several proposals by California legislators to increase the quality of Early Learning programs. There is debate across the state about how to achieve this goal. A new report by Advancement Project California offers a comprehensive examination of whether the state has enough physical facilities to house needed Early Learning programs.
This report examines the obstacles to facility development and improvement, and includes policy recommendations to ensure that California builds the needed infrastructure for the success of our ECE system.
