Position Overview

Early Edge California is seeking a talented individual with a deep commitment to early education to take on the challenge of improving early education in California through high-quality early childhood educators. The Director of Communications will be an exceptional communicator with a knack for developing communications to influencers and decision-makers, facilitating coalition communication, and implementing a day-to-day communications strategy that will enhance Early Edge California’s profile and further the organization’s policy.

The Director of Communications will:

  • Implement and oversee an overall strategic communications plan for the organization
  • Develop communications strategies for both traditional and social media platforms; produce press releases, op-eds, and other media-related resources
  • Help develop and execute Early Edge California’s strategy for synthesizing and curating information on early childhood including quality teaching, educator preparation, and Dual Language Learners
  • Lead external communications for Early Edge California, drafting letters from the executive director, newsletters, and other communications
  • Develop cutting-edge and creative approaches to communicate Early Edge California core issues to the early childhood sector, including policy makers, funders and program implementers
  • Work with network leads and partner organizations to build messaging coalitions on critical issue areas

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Passion for and commitment to the mission of Early Edge California
  • 7 – 10+ years of communications or relevant professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit advocacy context
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study
  • Fluency on all social media platforms and across all Microsoft and Google applications
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Experience developing and executing digital advocacy campaigns
  • Work well in teams and find great value in building strong relationships and networks of partner organizations and institutions
  • Experience in Education policy is a plus, but not required
  • Based in Los Angeles, CA
